The Bolivian military buys six Eurocopter AS332 Super Pumas from France, the office of the French president Hollande confirmed.

The Super Pumas are to replace the Bell UH-1H Iroquois (‘Huey’) helicopters of the Bolivian Air Force that are currently operate alongside Brazilian forces in counter-drugs operations. The first two AS332s should arrive in Summer 2014, with the last planned for December 2016.

The Bolivian Air Force currently operates a mixture of UH-1Hs, AS350, Alouette III and Harbin Z-9, while the Bolivian Army only has fixed-wing aircraft. It is unclear what the airworthiness of the Army’s solo Beechcraft King Air, Cessna 421 and CASA C-212 are, but one or more of the four Cessna 206 is/are believed to be flying.
