An undisclosed African nation – presumably Zambia – has ordered two C-27J Spartan tactical tranport aircraft from Alenia Aermacchi, the Italian company revealed on Wednesday 23 September. The two aircraft will be delivered from 2017 onwards.
If indeed Zambia, the country will be third nation on the African continent to operate the C-27J, next to Chad and Morocco. Elsewhere, the Spartan is operated by Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania, the US, Mexico, Australia and Peru, while Slovakia has aircraft on order. To date, 82 Spartans have been ordered, with 67 aircraft delivered from the production facility in Turin, Italy.
