Finnair is the first European airline to receive the new Airbus A350 XWB (Extra Wide Body) that the Scandinavian company feels will “substantially increase traveling comfort for passengers and environmental performance”. The aircraft first flew on Wednesday 16 September.
European launch customer of the Airbus 350, Finnair will welcome the first A350s in October. The first four are of a total order of 19 machines and will be placed on the routes to Beijing, Shanghai and Bangkok.
In 2016 Singapore and Hong Kong will be added. “The mission is to double turnover over Asia by 2020,” a Finnair manager says. Meanwhile Helsinki-Vanda IAP – the main Finnair hub – is going through an ambitious modernization project supported by an investment of 900 million euros.
