Egypt accepted the first batch of three Dassault Rafales on Monday 20 July during a ceremony at the Dassault flight test center. The acceptance follows only five months after the order for 24 Rafales from Cairo.
The Rafales now ready for delivery are three two seater aircraft, all of which were seen last week during test flights at Istres airbase in southern France. The delivery to Egypt is expected to take place on Tuesday 21 July.
“The Rafale is the fourth Dassault aircraft to fly in Egyptian colours”, Dassault CEO Eric Trappier remarked during the ceremony. Various Mirage types found their way to Egypt in the past.
These Rafales are in fact the very first to be delivered to a customer other than the French Air Force or Navy. Dassault for years was struggling to sell its 4.5th generation abroad. Hence, it should be all smiles today at Dassault.
