Poland has selected the Airbus Helicopters H225M (formerly EC725) Caracal as its next military multi-purpose helicopter, as announced on Tuesday 21 April in Warsaw. AgustaWestland and Sikorsky are left behind empty handed, respectively offering the AW149 and S-70 Black Hawk.
Poland is likely to buy 50 Caracal choppers, which are suited for Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) mission and other multi-purpose tasks. In a response, Airbus Helicopters has said it is ‘fully committed to providing Poland with the best product and best support’ possible. The company also states it is preparing for the next step in the tender process, which includes a test phase of the H225M, presumably in Poland.
The deal is worth and estimated 3 billion USD. Poland was earlier expected to buy as much as 70 new helicopters.
