Uruguayan Cessna 206 back on duty after years of recovery

It has taken some years, but the Cessna 206H with registration FAU 718 is fully back in service with the Uruguayan Air Force (Fuerza Aéra Uruguaya).

The aircraft was delivered to the Service Maintenance Depot (Servicio de Mantenimiento) at Montevideo IAP / Gral. Cesareo L. Berisso Airbase in 2008. With eye on the unit’s 55th birthday the restoration of the Cessna 206H is a big achievement for the relatively small air force of the Latin American country.

As the Uruguayan military confirmed on 7 April 2015, the aircraft already went airborne on 17 March, the official birthday of military aviation in Uruguay in 1913, to the delight of the personnel of Brigada Aérea I (First Air Brigade) based at the same location.

The Service Maintenance Depot has a limited budget and has been focusing mostly on keeping the FAU’s remaining airworthy aircraft airborne, focusing mainly on the 4 Bell 212 and 6 UH-1H helicopters as well as 4 Cessna A-37s, 2 CASA C-212s, 12 SIAI Marchetti T-260 (SF.260), 5 Pilatus AT-92 (PC-7) and 2 Embraer C-95 Bandeirante aircraft.
