The Mesa Police Department Aviation Unit ordered another MD 530F on 3 March 2015, to be added to the law enforcement’s existing fleet of two MD 500Es.
MD Helicopters will deliver the chopper later this year, equipped with a 650shp Rolls Royce 250 C30 engine, extended tail boom and longer main rotor blades. It will be equipped with a complete
Garmin avionics suite, including the latest 500H “glass” cockpit and a GTS800 Traffic Avoidance System.
The Mesa Police Department Aviation Unit is based at Mesa’s Falcon Field Airport in Arizona, USA. For the past 20 years Mesa Police helicopters have averaged nearly 8 flight hours per day, seven days per week. According to the official statistics the Mesa Police’s MD helicopters are normally on scene in the centre of the town in just a minute of flight time.
On 9 June 2014 a third Mesa Police MD500E crashed after an engine failure, while on patrol near Gilbert. Both crew members escaped unharmed.
