Canadian aircraft manufacturer Viking Air, holding the De Havilland legacy of the Twin Otter high, has handed over the last of nine ordered Twin Otter 400 series to Global Aerospace Logistics (GAL). GAL is based in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and will operate the aircraft on a semi-military basis.
GAL received eight Twin Otter 400s in 2013, the recent delivery makes nine. The contract was signed in 2009. All aircraft are configured with paratroop provisions and intermediate flotation gear (IFG) to enable operations on behalf of the UAE government, including on the loose sand in the Persian Gulf region.
