Cruise missile launch for Indian Su-30s in March

Next March, the Russian-Indian developed cruise missile BrahMos will be launched from an Sukhoi Su-30 Flanker for the first time. The announcement was made during Aero India 2015, the international airshow in Bangalore that started on 18 February.

BrahMos is s a short range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land. Its development is a joint venture between Russian NPO Mashinostroeyenia and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Together, they formed BrahMos Aerospace.

Two Flankers have been earmarked by the Indian Air Force for the initial launch trials. Up to 42 Indian Su-30MKIs are to be outfitted to carry the BrahMos.
