A remarkable decision by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF): after decades of faithful appearances at airshows all over Europe, the Dutch F-16 demo team will not be performing at airshows in 2015. Priority is given to operational commitments.
“The current scale of our operations has made it necessary to postpone the demo team season to 2016”, a message on the team’s Facebook page states. The RNLAF is currently engaged in operations over Iraq against Islamic State forces, while on the other hand it sees its number over available F-16s reduced.
The Dutch demo has been a crowd pleaser for years, with F-16s appearing in spectacular paint jobs over the last decade.
