London Heathrow airport welcomed the world’s first Airbus A350XWB in service on Saturday 10 January. The Qatar Airways aircraft was newly delivered in December, and now flown to Heathrow for noise tests and demonstrations. The aircraft should remain in London for a few days.
The A350 arrived at Heathrow’s runway 27L on Saturday afternoon. The aircraft was formally introduced into service with Qatar Airways on 7 January during a ceremony in Doha. First commercial flight is scheduled to Frankfurt on 15 January.
At Heathrow, a water cannon salute from the fire brigade – pic here – formed the usual and traditional welcome. The stay in London is meant to demonstrate to local resident the low noise emission of the Airbus A350. In total, the Airbus books show 778 orders from 41 customers worldwide.
