The first serial production aircraft that will be the future of Russian military and civilian airlift has made its first flight on 30 December 2014. At 12:37 local time Ilyushin IL-76MD-90A with serial number 0104 climbed into the sky from the runway at the Aviastar-SP test facility airfield of Ulyanovsk-Vostochnyy.

The IL-76MD-90A is a deeply modernized version of the legendary IL-76. The modernised version has a new flight and navigation system, a new automatic control system, a better communications system, a so-called “glass” cockpit, a modified wing and a reinforced chassis. meet all modern requirements for aircraft avionics and significantly increase safety, precision piloting and landing. The new PS-90A-76 engines will give the airplane more power and enables it to carry more load into the air.
