Congo plans buying new Chinese ARJ21 jet

The Republic of Congo is planning to buy three ARJ21s, the new regional jet airliner currently being developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).

The Congo Department of Transportation signed a memorandum of understanding on 2 January 2015, COMAC announced. The Chinese state even hopes that South Africa is stepping in, after a recent visit of Chinese prime minister Li Keqiang that included the signature of a bilateral industry cooperation.

The ARJ21-700 got its flight certificate on 30 December. The short- and medium-haul turbofan jet will be produced in an airline, cargo and business jet version. The airline basic version has a hybrid class layout of 78 seats or an all-economy class layout of 90 seats. Its range is 1,380 miles (2,225 km).
