The Turkish Air Force received its second of 10 Airbus A400M Atlas on 22 December, officials in Ankara have confirmed. MSN13 were handed over the aircraft at Airbus’s assembly line in Seville, Spain.
The strategic airlifter landed on Erkilet/Kayseri Airbase on 23 December, where it joined the first Türk Hava Kuvvetleri (THK) A400M that was delivered in April. The Turkish Atlas’s will start replacing the Transall C-160Ds of 221 Filo (squadron). The Airbus airlifters will complement the C-130Bs and C-130Es of 222 Filo.
Turkish industries are co-building the A400M and supply parts of the body and wing to Airbus. The final Atlas is destined to enter service with the THK in 2018.
