Not all was well just several weeks ago, but on Monday 22 December in Toulouse, Airbus finally delivered the first A350 XWB, the world’s latest generation widebody airliner, to launch customer Qatar Airways. The A350 XWB will have to compete to Boeing 787 Dreamliner, rivaling it in cost effectiveness and most certainly, beauty.
The A350 XWB embodies – according to Airbus – advanced technologies and innovations in aerodynamics, light-weight materials and aircraft systems. Powered by fuel-efficient and quiet Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, airlines will benefit from ‘unequalled’ levels of operating efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, says “receiving the A350 XWB as global launch customer is a very proud moment for Qatar Airways.” The company is expected to use its first A350 on a set of inaugural flights to Europe in January. The first aircraft will arrive in Qatar on Tuesday 23 December.
The A350 XWB fits alongside Qatar Airways’ growing fleet of A380s and A330s, making the carrier the world’s first airline to operate each member of Airbus’ market leading Widebody Family. At the end of November 2014, the Airbus A350 XWB had won 778 orders from 41 customers worldwide.
