ATR and Indonesian airline Lion Air signed a contract in Rome on 27 November 2014 for 40 ATR 72-600 aircraft. The deal is worth 1 billion USD, making it the largest single order in the last 20 years for ATR, a joint-venture between Finmeccanica – Alenia Aermacchi and the Airbus Group.
The aircraft are need in Indonesia to meet the growing demand for short and medium haul air transport in the Indonesian and Southeastern Asia region, says ATR in a press release. Deliveries will start from January 2016 and will continue until December 2018. The new aircraft will be added to the 60 ATR 72 already ordered by Lion Air since 2008.
