The Royal Thai Army will increase its Mil Mi-17V-5 fleet to five in 2016. A order for two additional Hips has been confirmed in November 2014 by Thai and Russian officials.
The pair of new Mi-17s will be a supplement to the three already in service since 2011, flying out and in of Bangkok.
Apparently choosing the tough Hips for transport, the Thai military has choosen Airbus Helicopters’ US branche to provide the military with sophisticated utility and scout helicopters. In October the contract for an additional 9 UH-72A Lakotas was signed. The Thai Army already has six of these.
