Lebanon is aiming to purchase 18 Bell UH-1 Huey II helicopters from the United States, according to a State Department notification to the US Congress on 17 September 2014.

The deal will include spare parts, maintenance and support equipment, with manufacturer Bell Helicopter in Forth Fort, Texas, as the prime contractor. The US wants to invest 180 million dollar in the sale to help “improve the Lebanese mobility capability to maintain internal security, enforce United Nation’s Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701, and counter terrorist threats”, according to State.

The US is aiming to have its personnel inside Lebanon for a period of three years to provide support for the helicopter deal.
