French A400Ms keep on coming

The newest tactical airlifter of the French Air Force (Armée de l’Air), the Airbus A400M Atlas, is present in increasing numbers. Just over the course of 1.5 months the French received three of this new aircraft, with the fifth AdlA A400M arriving on 8 September 2014.

The aircraft with serial number MSN12 joined the others at Orléan-Bricy Airbase. It will help increase the French armed forces ability to project themselves worldwide, with its missions including the transport of up to 37 tons of materiel.

The fifth AdlA Atlas is the sixth A400M in total delivered, with Turkey also having received on of the aircraft. Germany, Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Turkey and France have placed combined orders for a total of 170 A400Ms, which will compete with the Lockheed C-130J Super Hercules in future purchase projects of the world’s air forces. The UK is destined to receive its first Atlas before the end of September 2014.
