The first Alenia Aermacchi C-27J Spartan tactical airlifter of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has completed its first flight at the Turin-Caselle Airport in Italy on 19 December 2013.

The aircraft is currently undergoing final checks in preparation for customer acceptance tests and procedures before its delivery to prime contractor L-3 Communications. By running it through L-3 the RAAF got a nice price deal through the US Air Force Foreign Military Sales channel. The final construction went fairly quick as we reported on the final assembly of this RAAF aircraft only a few weeks ago.

The first aircraft with serial A34-001 will be delivered to L-3 for final integration of systems in 2014. All 10 C-27Js are planned to be in service with the RAAF in 2015.
