Unless something weird happens the Austrian Defence Force will get three Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters. US Congress was informed of the intended so-called Foreign Military Sale on 4 December 2013.

The Österreichs Bundesheer wants to buy the tactical helicopters with Aviation Survivability Equipment, Aviation Mission Planning Systems, AN/AVS-9 Night Vision Goggles, Embedded Global Positioning Systems with Inertial Navigation and other gear.

The secure communication suite of the UH-60Ms will consist of AN/ARC-231, AN/ARC-210, AN/ARC-220 and AN/ARC-201D radios, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems andAN/VRC-92 SINCGARS. Vienna will be paying about US$ 137 million for the package including training and logistics.

The Austrian Defence Force already flies 9 similar S-70 Black Hawk helicopters since the beginning of this century. The operate with Medium Transport Helicopter Squadron (Mittlere Transporthubschrauberstaffel (mTHSSta)) out of Fliegerhorst Brumowski / Tulln-Langenlebarn north of Vienna.

Austria is currently in the process of upgrading its defences. The country’s AB212 helicopters are being modernised, as are its Hercules transport aircraft. Moreover, the Österreichs Luftstreitkräfte operate the Eurofighter EF2000 / Typhoon after briefly flying leased Northrop F-5E Tigers.
