Airbus Military is making progress with its standing order to deliver 9 ex-US Navy Lockheed P-3A Orions as P-3AM to the Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB), the Brazilian Air Force.

This week the 7th aircraft was officially handed over, about two years after the first. The FAB awarded the upgrade contract to the European aircraft manufacturer in 2005. Airbus incorporates a new tactical mission system, a maritime surveillance radar, an IFF system (Identification Friend or Foe) and a Safire II FLIR.

The Lockheed P-3s of the FAB are a very valuable air asset of Brazil, with 22 million km2 of ocean approximately to cover and in many cases the only armed aircraft that can protect the most outer areas of the largest Latin American country.
