The Peruvian National Police received its first of four Eurocopter EC145s on 5 November 2013, by French Defence Minister Le Drain visiting the Interior Ministry of the Latin-American country.
Public security, surveillance and disaster relief are the main tasks for these semi-military helicopters. All four will be in service before the end of 2013.
Eurocopter has so far delivered 500 EC145s to 26 countries. France is a major user with the French Ministry of Interior alone operating 50 aircraft of the type. The US Army operates 345 EC145s as UH-72 Lakota.
The EC145 can carry 1.7 tons of payload or up to 10 passengers. The chopper has a range of 370 nautical miles. The Policía Nacional del Perú version is equipped with a siren and multi-frequency radios for hub-and-spoke communications. One of the four machines will feature an infrared camera and is able to send the video feed live to its command centre or units on the ground.
