The French Directorate for Armament (DGA) received the first newest version of the Dassault Rafale multi-role fighter destined for the French Air Force this week. 60 of these so-called Tranche 4 aircraft will be delivered with the new RBE2 EASA active radar, a new missile launch detector and new so-called sector optronics for identifcation and telemetry in the front of the aircraft. In short: the Tranche 4 should be able to detect possible threats quicker and sooner.
The first Tranche 4 is a two-seater and the 121st Rafale delivered so far, with a total order of 180 aircraft. It has joined the Armée de l’Air at Mont-de-Marsan. The Rafales delivered consist of three versions: 38 Rafale M for the French Navy, 39 Rafale B two-seaters for the French Air Force and 44 Rafale C single-seaters for the French Air Force.
